This chocolate Apple smoothie is the perfect fall smoothie. Creamy, chocolatey and healthy. Made with apples, cocoa powder, honey and milk in under 5 minutes. A perfect breakfast smoothie, post-workout drink or snack throughout the day.
At this time of year, I have so many apples left over — too many to bake into apple pies. So I am always looking for ways to use them up. This smoothie is one of the quickest and easiest ways to eat those leftover apples.
Apple ciders and hot chocolate are great warm and cozy fall drinks. But sometimes I’m craving a refreshing and cold drink that is nutritious yet still has the fall coziness vibes — such as after a workout, or on a cool crisp morning. So I find myself making this chocolate apple smoothie.
Apples and chocolate?
Everyone knows slices of apple with chocolate obviously go well together.. so when they are blended together in a smoothie it is no different.
Most of the time in chocolate flavored smoothies, I prefer to use hot chocolate powder mix. However for this chocolate apple smoothie recipe, cocoa powder actually works better. Although cocoa powder is more bitter than hot chocolate mix, honey is used here as a natural sweetener. And honey + apple go really well together towards making that fall flavor.
Ingredients for this chocolate apple smoothie...
The best part about this recipe is that there are only four ingredients: cocoa powder, apples, honey and milk.
Use a fresh, whole apple for this recipe — don’t try to substitute it for apple juice. The whole apple adds thickness and creaminess to the smoothie (plus it is healthier).
If you want even more creaminess, try adding in a bit of yogurt as well or a bit more milk.
