Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Quick & Easy — It takes less than 10 minutes to make a large batch of these shooters. Plus it’s easy to quickly whip up another round during your party.
  • Crowd Pleaser — These shots taste just like a classic margarita, so they are not too sweet and not too strong, so everyone is guaranteed to love the taste.
  • Fun & Summery — These are great shooters for a summer party, and with the mini shot glass salted rim, they are extra fun.

Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make the margarita shots.
  • Tequila: Use blanco, 100% agave tequila for the best flavor. It doesn’t have to be top-shelf tequila, but a decent, quality tequila will make a difference in flavor.
  • Cointreau: Cointreau is an orange liqueur. You can use Triple Sec or Grand Marnier as a substitute.
  • Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice only! Fresh lime juice will taste noticeably better than bottled lime juice.
  • Salt: Just like with a classic margarita, these shooters have a salted rim. Use regular salt or buy margarita salt specifically made for margaritas.

How To Make Margarita Shooters

Step 1: Run a wedge of lime along the edge of each shot glass. Dip the edge of the shot glasses in salt, pressing gently to make the salt stick.

Step 2: Add the tequila, Cointreau and lime juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain evenly into the shooter glasses.

Expert Tips

  • Make them stronger. Depending on your crowd, you may want a stronger shooter recipe that tastes closer to a shot of tequila. If this is the case, use 2 oz to 2 ½ oz of tequila instead.
  • Add some garnish. Presentation is everything with these mini margarita shots! Serve them with mini lime wedges, or on a platter filled with ice and halved limes.
  • Use a flavored margarita. If you are looking for a more creative margarita recipe to use with these shooters, try a flavored margarita such as these raspberry margaritas, this guava margarita or this pineapple orange margarita.
  • Use a juicer to save time. Squeezing limes by hand can take a bit of time. If you are planning to make a bunch of these shooters, use a juicer to juice the limes. This will save you time and make sure you get the most juice out of your limes.

Recipe FAQs

How many shooters does one serving make?

This depends on the size of your shooter glasses. Typically, one serving will make about 3 shooters. Adjust the recipe as needed.

Can I make these in advance?

If you want to make these in advance, mix everything together and store them in an airtight container in the fridge. Before serving, shake them in the cocktail shaker and strain. Don’t make these more than a couple hours in advance otherwise the lime can get a metallic taste. Also, don’t pre-pour these shooters or the ingredients can separate slightly.
