Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Its color — Because of the black vodka, this shot is a dark black color, making it a unique shot to serve any time of year - but especially for Halloween.
  • It’s strong — Unlike some other more fruity flavored shooters, this is a strong shot recipe and definitely tastes like alcohol. If you are looking for a shooter that is a bit sweeter, try this Raspberry Lemon Drop Shot or this Blue Kamikaze Shot.
  • Coffee + Vodka + Orange — The coffee flavor from the Kahlua and orange flavor from the Triple Sec combine with the strong vodka to give this black cadillac shot a unique taste.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the black cadillac shot.
  • Black Vodka: This recipe uses black vodka which gives this shot its dark black color. Using regular vodka won’t affect the taste of the shot, but it will make the shot a slightly lighter color (more of a dark brown due to the Kahlua). A popular substitute for black vodka is Patron XO Cafe Tequila which is also dark black, but will give a stronger coffee and chocolate flavor.
  • Kahlua: Kahlua is generally the most popular coffee flavored liqueur, but you can replace this with your favorite type of coffee liqueur.
  • Triple Sec: Triple Sec is an orange liqueur. You can use Cointreau or Grand Marnier as a substitute.
  • Lemon: You will need just a small dash of lemon juice to spritz on top of the shot. Since it is such a small quantity, you can use bottled lemon juice without affecting the taste too much in this recipe.

How To Make A Black Cadillac Shot

Step 1: Add the black vodka, Kahlua and Triple Sec to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Step 2: Shake well and strain into a shot glass. Spritz with a dash of lemon juice and serve.

Expert Tips

  • Use Patron Cafe Tequila. Patron Cafe Tequila is a great substitute for the black vodka. It adds a bit more coffee flavor but still gives the dark black color to the shot.
  • Chill the shot glasses. Chill the shot glasses in the freezer for at least 30 minutes before serving to keep this shot extra refreshing when served.
  • Add some simple syrup. If this shot is too strong for your liking and you want to make it sweeter, add in up to ½ an ounce of regular simple syrup, or try this chocolate simple syrup.
