Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy — This is an easy cocktail recipe that anyone can make. Plus, you can make a large batch of syrup in advance so you can whip up a drink in just a couple of minutes.
  • Homemade Peach Flavor — The homemade peach simple syrup is what makes this margarita the best. It is infused with real peaches so there are no artificial flavors, unlike with store bought syrups.
  • Large Batch — If you want to make a pitcher of peach margaritas for a group of friends, it is simple to triple or quadruple this recipe for a large batch.
  • Uses Up Peaches — If it is peach season and you have peaches that are a bit overripe and slightly mushy, this is a great recipe to use them in so they don’t go to waste.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the peach margarita.
  • Peaches: Use fresh, ripe peaches. It is ok if the peaches are overly soft or slightly mushy. If it is not peach season, you can use frozen peaches. If you are using frozen peaches, you don’t have to let them thaw before making the syrup.
  • Tequila: For margaritas, blanco tequila that is 100% agave is generally the best choice. Although you can use any type of tequila that you like.
  • Cointreau: Cointreau is an orange liqueur that is often used in margarita recipes. You can substitute this with Triple Sec or Grand Marnier.
  • Lime Juice: Always use freshly squeezed lime juice for margaritas as opposed to bottled lime juice. If you are making a large batch of these margaritas, use a citrus juicer to save time.
  • Sugar: This recipe uses granulated sugar for the peach syrup, but you can substitute this with brown sugar for a richer, slightly caramel flavor.
  • Water: A bit of water helps give the syrup the right consistency. Use filtered water to avoid any unpleasant flavors from tap water.

How To Make A Peach Margarita On The Rocks

Step 1: Heat the peaches, water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. Strain out the peach chunks.

Expert Tips

  • Save the peach chunks. After making the syrup and straining out the leftover peach chunks, don’t discard them! These syrup-covered peach chunks are perfect for mixing into plain greek yogurt for a delicious breakfast idea.
  • Store leftover syrup. If you are only making 1 or 2 margaritas, this recipe will make extra peach simple syrup. Let the syrup fully cool to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 to 2 weeks. You can also make a large batch of peach syrup ahead of time to save time preparing drinks later on. Use extra peach syrup to make a bellini peach raspberry iced tea or a peach gin cocktail.
  • Make it a mocktail. This on the rocks peach margarita makes a great mocktail. Just leave out the tequila and Cointreau for a non alcoholic drink.
  • Use a sugar rim. If you don’t like salted margarita rims with sweeter drinks, you can use a sugar rim instead. A mixture of brown sugar and granulated sugar works best with this recipe.

Recipe FAQs

Do I have to remove the peach skins before making the syrup?

No. You can if you prefer, but it is much faster to leave the skins in place as it won’t affect the taste at all.

Can I use mushy peaches?

Yes. Peaches that are a bit too soft to eat on their own are perfect for using to make the peach syrup

Can I muddle the peaches instead of using the simple syrup?

Other recipes use muddled peaches instead of simple syrup. However, making your own peach syrup adds much more flavor than muddled peaches and creates a smoother drink.

Can I use peach schnapps instead?

You could use peach schnapps instead, but it will change the flavor of this recipe. Peach schnapps has a stronger, slightly more artificial peach flavor compared to homemade peach syrup.

Description

This peach margarita on the rocks is a delicious, peachy summer cocktail recipe. Made with simple syrup from real peaches, this is the best peach margarita you can find!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Peach Simple Syrup:
    • 1 cup peaches, slices
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup water
  • Peach Margarita On The Rocks:
    • 1 ½ oz peach simple syrup
    • 1 ½ oz tequila
    • ½ oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
    • ½ tbsp Cointreau
    • Salt to rim the margarita glass

Instructions

  1. First, make the peach simple syrup. Heat the peaches, sugar and water together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and use a fork to break down the peach chunks as they warm up. Don’t let the syrup boil.
  2. Once the sugar has completely dissolved, remove the saucepan from the stove and strain out the peach chunks. Let the syrup cool to room temperature before making the margarita.
  3. Then, make the peach margarita on the rocks. Run a wedge of lime around the edge of the margarita glass and roll it in salt, pressing to make the salt stick.
  4. Add the peach simple syrup, tequila, lime juice and Cointreau to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well for 20 seconds until the outside is frosted. Strain into the prepared margarita glass and serve.
