This tasty, fruity pear bourbon cocktail is made with naturally sweetened pear simple syrup, fresh pear juice, lemon juice and bourbon. It is the perfect fall cocktail drink.
Pear and bourbon are two flavors that go exceptionally well together. Personally I don’t love the taste of bourbon on its own, but in cocktails, it can be excellent. In this cocktail, the pear flavor comes through without being too sweet or overpowering and is complemented by the bourbon undertones.
What is pear simple syrup?
Simple syrup is a standard sugar and water mixture bartenders use for making a variety of drink recipes. Pear simple syrup is a version of simple syrup with pear flavor naturally infused. It is a quick and easy recipe and is essential for this cocktail recipe.
To make the pear simple syrup required for this pear bourbon cocktail, heat up 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of water and 1 cup of pear chunks in a sauce pan over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes until the syrup thickens slightly. Remove it from the heat, strain out the pear chunks, and let it cool to room temperature before using.
Natural vs. Fresh Juice for cocktails
Cocktails will always taste better with fresh fruit juice by far. This cocktail is no exception. I use a juicer to extract the fresh pear juice, which is the easiest way to make natural fruit juice. If you don’t have a juicer or prefer to buy juice from a store, try to buy pear juice that is pure juice. It will make a difference in the flavor of your cocktail.
How to make this pear bourbon cocktail:
Add all of the ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake them together before straining into a cocktail glass and serving. You can add ice into the shaker before mixing if you would like the drink extra cold, but strain it before serving.Print
