Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 2 Ingredients — This shot could not be simpler. All you need are two ingredients (Baileys and Frangelico).
  • St. Patrick’s Day Recipe — Baileys is an Irish Cream liqueur so it makes sense that it is popular around St. Patrick’s Day. Any sort of Baileys shot is a great recipe to make in March.
  • Layered Shot — Layered shots look so much fancier than regular shots. Plus, you don’t need any bartending equipment to make them (like a cocktail shaker).

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the shot.
  • Baileys: Baileys is the most popular Irish Cream liqueur, but you can substitute it for another brand. For a flavor variation, you can use a flavored Baileys, such as their Red Velvet or Salted Caramel versions.
  • Frangelico: Frangelico is an Italian hazelnut liqueur. You can generally find it at any liquor store, but if needed you can use whatever type of hazlenut liqueur you can find.

How To Make A Nutty Irishman Shot

Step 1: Pour the Frangelico into your shot glass.

Step 2: Gently pour the Baileys on top of the Frangelico. It should sit in a layer on top of the shot.

Expert Tips

  • Pour the Baileys gently. This is generally an easy shot to layer, but it is still important to make sure you pour the Baileys gently on top of the Frangelico so it doesn’t blend together. It can help to pour the Baileys down the back of a spoon for smoother, clearer layers.
  • Use St. Patrick’s Day shot glasses. If you are making this shot recipe for a St. Patrick’s Day party, try serving it in fun, themed shot glasses.
  • Add some whipped cream. If you want to make this shot extra decadent, add a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.

Recipe FAQs

Can I turn this recipe into a Nutty Irishman Drink?

I recommend this recipe as a shot, since it would be overly sweet as a full cocktail.

Does it matter which order I pour the ingredients?

Yes. For layered shots, it is always important to pour the most dense layer first (in this case, the Frangelico). Otherwise, you won’t get nice, clear layers.
