Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • No Blender — On the rocks daiquiri cocktails are easy to make because you don’t need to blend anything, which means less mess to clean up! All you need is a cocktail shaker.
  • From Scratch — For the best flavor, there are instructions for how you can make your own strawberry syrup from scratch using real strawberries.
  • Easy Recipe — This is a straightforward recipe that is easy to follow even for beginner at home bartenders.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the strawberry daiquiri.
  • Rum: Use whatever brand of white rum you like best. You can use dark rum, but it will make a stronger drink. If you like dark rum, I suggest trying this Dark Rum Daiquiri instead. This cocktail would also work with gin or tequila.
  • Strawberry Simple Syrup: You can easily make your own strawberry syrup at home using water, sugar and strawberries (see the FAQ section). However, you can also use a storebought strawberry simple syrup. Make sure you use a drink syrup (labelled as simple syrup) rather than a thick strawberry sauce.
  • Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice for this drink! Bottled lime juice will give the cocktail an artificial taste.

How To Make A Strawberry Daiquiri On The Rocks

Step 1: Add the rum, strawberry syrup and lime juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Step 2: Shake well for 20 seconds and strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice.

Expert Tips

  • Make it a mocktail. If you want to make this drink a mocktail, leave out the rum and instead add in a flavored juice, such as mango juice or pineapple juice. Alternatively, you can replace the rum with a bit of club soda for a fizzy, less sweet mocktail.
  • Make it frozen. If you are looking for a frozen daiquiri, you can turn this drink into a blended cocktail. Blend the ingredients together with a handful of ice (or even better — frozen strawberries). You will need to adjust the amount of liquid to get the right consistency.
  • Make it tropical. If you want to give this cocktail a tropical twist, use Malibu rum for a bit of coconut flavor.
  • Add in more rum. For a stronger drink, you can add in up to an extra ounce of rum.

Recipe FAQs

How do you make strawberry simple syrup?

Heat 1 cup strawberries, ½ cup granulated sugar and ½ cup water together in a small saucepan for about 5 to 8 minutes, until the sugar has dissolved. Strain out the strawberry chunks and let the syrup cool to room temperature.

Is this a sweet drink?

This is not an overly sweet cocktail and is quite spirit-forward. If you are looking for a sweeter, fruitier summer drink, try this Frozen Hurricane.
