This Flaming Sambuca is a fiery two ingredient shot recipe that is great for a party. All you need is Sambuca, a few coffee beans and a match.

Sambuca is an Italian anise flavored liqueur. In this recipe, the Sambuca and a few coffee beans are lit on fire before being served.

This is a strong shot recipe and is pure alcohol, like this Starry Nights Shot or this Black Cadillac Shot.

This is not a sugary, sweet shot recipe. If you are looking for something sweet, try these Watermelon Shooters or this Raspberry Kamikaze Shot.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • It’s on fire. Obviously, the best part about the shot is that it is actually lit on fire.
  • It’s simple to make. This is a super easy recipe to make, but it looks incredibly impressive.
  • It’s strong. If you like strong shot recipes that are not diluted with any flavors or other mixers, this is the shot for you.

Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make the flaming sambuca.
  • Sambuca: You can use another anise flavored liqueur as a substitute. However, if you care more about the flaming fire effect rather than the actual liquor, you can replace the Sambuca with rum, vodka, gin or tequila.
  • Coffee Beans: You will need three whole coffee beans. When the coffee beans are burned, they will infuse a slight coffee flavor to the shot. Note that the coffee beans are not essential to the shot — you don’t need them to make the shot light on fire.

How To Make A Flaming Sambuca Shot

Step 1: Add the coffee beans and Sambuca to a shot glass.

Step 2: Light the Sambuca on fire.

Step 3: Let it burn for a few seconds, then extinguish the flame by covering it with a glass.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t drink the shot while it’s on fire. Obviously you do not drink the shot before the flame has been completely extinguished.
  • Don’t burn yourself. This shot involves open flame. Be careful when making this recipe. Don’t burn yourself or anything else. Make sure you don’t make this shot around anything flammable.
  • Don’t let the glass heat up too much. Don’t let the shot burn for more than a few seconds before you extinguish it. Otherwise, the glass can heat up too much and break.
  • Use a snifter glass. Some versions of this recipe involve lighting the sambuca and coffee beans inside a snifter glass and then pouring the shot into another glass before drinking it. The flame should go out as you pour the liquid.

Recipe FAQs

Why are 3 coffee beans used?

Three coffee beans have traditionally been used in a Flaming Sambuca shot to represent health, happiness and prosperity.

Can I drink the shot while it is on fire?

No. Drinking the shot while it is still on fire is incredibly dangerous and can result in injury to yourself, or risk starting a fire if the fiery alcohol spills onto something flammable.

Are you supposed to eat the coffee beans?

Some people recommend eating the coffee beans which complement the anise flavored liqueur. However, you can leave them in the shot glass if you prefer.

  • 1 ½ oz Sambuca

Instructions

  1. Add the coffee beans and Sambuca to a shot glass.
