This is a sweet, but strong shooter recipe.

It is similar to this creamy Mudslide Shooter made with Kahlua and Baileys, or this Salted Nut Roll Shooter with RumChata and butterscotch schnapps.

For some other sweet shot recipes that taste like dessert, try this Carrot Cake Shot or this Gingerbread Shot.

  • Easy to make — This is a simple shooter recipe that is easy to prepare in advance for a group of people.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make a wedding cake shot.
  • Frangelico: Frangelico is an Italian hazelnut liqueur that is popular in a lot of cocktail recipes. Frangelico should be easy to find in your local alcohol store, but you can use any type of hazelnut liqueur as a substitute. You could also use Baileys or Kahlua instead if you prefer.
  • Vanilla Vodka: Use vanilla vodka, cake vodka or whipped cream vodka. All of these flavors will give the shot a sweet, wedding cake flavor.
  • Lemon Slice & Sugar: You’ll need a small lemon slice or wedge and some sugar. The sugared lemon slice is served with the shot and can be taken before or after drinking the shooter.

How To Make A Wedding Cake Shot

Step 1: Add the vanilla vodka and Frangelico to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain.

Step 2: Dip the lemon slice into sugar. Place the lemon slice on top of the shot glass.

Expert Tips

  • Chill the shot glasses and lemon slice. Chill the liqueurs and the sugared lemon slice before making this shot to make sure the shot is ice cold when served.
  • Use holiday shot glasses. If you are making this shooter for the holidays, try serving it in fun holiday themed shot glasses.
  • Add in some amaretto. For a bit of a flavor variation, try adding in a dash of amaretto for a bit of almond flavor.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this wedding cake shooter into a drink?

I recommend this wedding cake shot as a shot or a shooter rather than a cocktail because it is pure alcohol and would be a very strong drink.

Do you eat the lemon slice before or after taking the shot?

Some people prefer to eat the lemon slice before the shot, whereas others prefer to bite into it after. It tastes delicious both ways.
