Jump to Recipe

A deliciously tasty pesto mayo drizzle sauce perfect for drizzling over pizza, sandwiches or cheesy bread. Made with fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, olive oil, mayonnaise, and lemon juice all blended together in a creamy mix.

This sauce is basically in between a pesto pasta sauce and a mayo dipping sauce. There is all the pesto and basil flavor with a good dose of mayonnaise to add some creaminess.

The consistency is what makes this the perfect pizza drizzle sauce. It’s not too liquidy like pesto sauce and not too thick like mayo or aioli dipping sauce. That’s why it’s called a drizzle sauce because it really does just drizzle over your pizza.

What to put pesto drizzle on

This sauce is made to be a pizza drizzle sauce and will go with almost any flavor of pizza. But this red pepper and goat cheese pizza is probably one of my favorites. It’s also perfect for dipping your pizza crusts in as well.

However there are so many other uses for this sauce, like added to grilled cheese sandwiches or drizzled over oven baked cheesy bread. Experiment and try it out on some of your favorite foods!

How To Store Pesto Drizzle:

This sauce will taste best when made and eaten fresh, and since it’s so quick to make, you can easily whip up a fresh batch each time you need it. Just halve or quarter the recipe to get the quantity you need.

However, if you do have leftover, store this sauce in a sealed container or jar in the fridge for up to a week. Because this has mayo in it, this sauce will not freeze well. Just give it a good stir or shake before serving it as the sauce will slightly separate after sitting. You can warm it up briefly in the microwave before serving if you prefer.

How to make pesto drizzle sauce thicker:

If you are looking for a true dipping sauce (like to dip your home fries in), then you will want a sauce that is a bit thicker. Cut out the olive oil for a creamier, richer, aioli-like dipping sauce.

Description

A delicious pesto mayo drizzle sauce perfect for drizzling over pizza. Made with fresh basil, garlic, pine nuts, olive oil, mayonnaise, and lemon juice in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ tsp garlic, minced
  • ⅛ cup pine nuts
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ tbsp lemon juice
  • ⅛ cup olive oil
  • a handful of fresh basil
  • a pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender, and pulse until smooth. Do not over-blend, the sauce is meant to have a slightly chunky consistency.
  2. Serve fresh over pizza - such as this red pepper and goat cheese pizza. Store leftovers in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

  • If you want a thicker sauce that it better for dipping into (potatoes, crust), remove the olive oil.
  • You can warm this sauce up for 15-20 seconds in the microwave before drizzling on pizza if you prefer.
  • When left to sit, the sauce will settle and separate slightly. Stir the pesto drizzle sauce well before serving.
