Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Peppermint + Cacao — The combination of peppermint and creme de cacao is absolutely delicious. This is a strong but sweet shot all at the same time.
  • 2 ingredients — Nothing is easier to make than a 2 ingredient shot recipe. Just add everything to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and strain.
  • Large batch — If you want to make shots for a bunch of guests but don’t have a lot of time to prepare them, this is a great recipe. You can easily make a huge batch in less than 10 minutes.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the polar bear shot.
  • Peppermint Schnapps: There are several different types of peppermint schnapps available. Any type will work for this recipe, so use whichever brand you can find. You can also use Creme de Menthe as a substitute.
  • Creme de Cacao: Creme de Cacao is a clear chocolate flavored liqueur. You can use another type of white chocolate liqueur as a substitute. Just keep in mind that if you want a clear shot, you’ll have to choose a liqueur that is clear.

How To Make A Polar Bear Shot

Step 1: Add the peppermint schnapps and Creme de Cacao to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Expert Tips

  • Chill the shot glasses. This shot tastes best when served ice cold (it is called a Polar Bear Shot!). Chill your shot glasses in the freezer for 30 minutes before preparing this shot.
  • Use textured shot glasses. Shots that are clear are most presentable when served in textured shot glasses, rather than smooth ones.
  • Make it creamy. If you want to make this shot a bit creamy, try adding in some Baileys or even a dash of RumChata for a unique, tasty variation.
  • Add some whipped cream. Looking to make this shot even more decadent? Add a dollop of whipped cream on top with a sprinkle of chocolate shavings or Christmas themed sprinkles.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make these shots in advance?

Yes. You can prepare these shots in advance and store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.

What color is this polar bear shot?

Typically this shot will be clear. However, if you use a Creme de Cacao that is white, the shot will be white. And if you use a green Creme de Menthe as a substitute, it will be green. Either way, it will taste just as good.
