Ingredients & Substitutions
- Peanut Butter Whiskey: You’ll need some type of peanut butter whiskey, such as Screwball Whiskey. However, you can use regular whiskey with a dash of peanut butter syrup as a substitute.
- Baileys: Baileys Irish Cream makes this shot extra creamy. Use Caramel Baileys for an extra boost of caramel flavor. As a substitute, you can use RumChata instead.
- Butterscotch Schnapps: Use whatever type of butterscotch schnapps you have available. You can use caramel vodka as a substitute.
- Caramel: Caramel sauce is used for lining the rim of the shooter glass. Use a thick caramel syrup that will stay in place. Caramel simple syrup is too thin and will run down the side of the glass.
- Peanuts: A few peanuts are used to make the peanut caramel shot glass rim. You can use plain peanuts, salted peanuts or sugar coated ones, whichever you prefer.
How To Make A Payday Shot
Step 1: Dip the rim of your shot glass in the caramel syrup, then roll it in the crushed peanuts.
Step 2: Add the Baileys, butterscotch schnapps and peanut butter whiskey to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well for 20 seconds and strain into your prepared shot glass.
Expert Tips
- Let the shot glasses set upside down. If you find the caramel sauce is dripping down the side of the glass, let the shot glasses set upside down on a plate or paper towel in the fridge for 10 minutes before serving the shot.
- Double the recipe for shooters. This recipe is meant for shot glasses (1 ½ ounces). If you want to make these shooters, double the quantity so they fill a shooter glass (3 ounces).
- Add some extra garnish. The caramel peanut rim is already plenty garnish for this shot recipe, but if you want to make it even more extravagant, try adding a dollop of whipped cream with an extra drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce.
Recipe FAQs
You can, but I recommend it more as a shot or shooter since it is very sweet.
You can make a batch of these shots in advance and store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.
Before 1996, Payday candy bars were not covered in chocolate. Since then, they have been produced with a chocolate coating.
