Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Sweet, Tart & Creamy — The combination of key lime juice and RumChata gives these shots a sweet and creamy tang that really does taste like a key lime pie.
  • Summer Party Shots — Just like key lime pie makes a refreshing summer dessert, so do these shots! They are especially good when served ice cold on a hot day.
  • Easy to Make — There are only 3 ingredients in these key lime shots so they are quick to whip together in just a few minutes.

Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed to make the key lime pie shooters.
  • Whipped Cream Vodka: Whipped cream vodka gives a bit of sweetness to these shots. You can also use vanilla vodka for a similar flavor. If all you have is regular vodka, that will still work in this recipe, but you may want to reduce the vodka slightly to still keep these shots tasting sweet. As a substitute for vodka, you can use Malibu coconut rum, which will change the flavor profile quite a bit, but still tastes really good, giving these shots a tropical feel.
  • Key Lime Juice: You can use either freshly squeezed key lime juice or bottled key lime juice. Key limes have a tarter, brighter flavor compared to regular limes. You can use regular limes instead, but your shots won’t have that classic key lime “tang”.
  • RumChata: RumChata adds a delicious, unique creamy flavor. You should be able to find RumChata in your local liquor store. As a replacement, you can use Baileys instead.

How To Make Key Lime Pie Shots

Step 1: Rub a small amount of key lime juice around the edge of the shot glass. Press the rim into the graham cracker crumbs, until they stick around the edge of the glass.

Step 2: Add the whipped cream vodka, key lime juice and RumChata to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into the shot glass.

Expert Tips

  • Add some garnish. In addition to the graham cracker crumb shot glass rim, you can top these shots with a dollop of whipped cream and lime wheel. You can even add a sprinkle of lime zest for even more lime flavor.
  • Make a less sweeter version. If you want a tarter shot, you can leave out the RumChata (or reduce it to ¼ oz to ½ oz).
  • Chill the shots. These shots are best served as cold as possible. If you are not serving them right away, store them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.
