Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- No Fancy Ingredients — Most versions of a fruit loops shot use Loopy Vodka, but don’t worry — you don’t need it for this recipe! Instead, the fruit loop flavor comes from actual fruit loops, which are much easier to find.
- Sweet & Fun — This is a sweet shot that is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser.
- Colorful — The combination of blue curaçao and opaque half & half make this shot a bright blue color that is especially attractive when served at a party.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Fruit Loops: Fruit loops are used to infuse the half & half with fruit loop flavor. If you are using Loopy Vodka, you can skip the fruit loops if you prefer.
- Half & Half: Half & half makes this shot extra creamy. It is sold in the creamer section of most stores and is made from half cream and half milk. If you can’t find half and half, you can use whole cream or whole milk instead. You could also use RumChata or Baileys Irish Cream, which both work well as a substitute.
- Vodka: I used regular vodka for this shot because it is easier to find for most people than Loopy Vodka. But if you have it, Three Olives Loopy Vodka (which is fruit loop flavored vodka), will bring out the fruit loop flavor even more. Vanilla vodka or whipped cream vodka would also work well as a substitute.
- Blue Curaçao: Blue curaçao is a citrus flavored liqueur. It gives the shot its blue color. You can use an alcoholic blue curaçao or a non-alcoholic blue curaçao syrup.
How To Make A Fruit Loop Shot
Step 1: Dip the rim of the shot glass in a bit of blue curaçao. Then roll the edge in crushed fruit loops to create the fruit loop rim.
Step 2: Soak the remaining fruit loops in the half & half for 5 minutes until they have dissolved. Strain the half & half to remove any fruit loop chunks.
Step 3: Add the half & half, vodka and blue curaçao to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into the prepared shot glass.
Expert Tips
- Chill the shot glasses. Once you prepare the shot glasses with the fruit loop rim, chill the glasses in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
- Soak the fruit loops overnight. If you want to infuse this shot with even more fruit loop flavor, soak both the half & half and vodka with fruit loops overnight. Keep them in the fridge in an airtight container and strain the mixture before mixing the shot.
- Serve with fruit loops. This shot works well when served with a few fruit loops — either on a cocktail pick, or even served in the shot itself!
Recipe FAQs
Three Olives Loopy Vodka is a fruit loop flavored vodka which you can order online.
Yes. You can multiply the quantities by 2 to 3 times and serve the drink over ice for a cocktail version. You may want to use milk instead of cream to avoid the drink from being overly sweet. You can also reduce the amount of vodka and use a non alcoholic blue curaçao syrup to reduce the alcohol content.
