The ingredients needed to make the daiquiri.
  • Dark Rum: There are lots of different types of dark rum to choose from. Since this daiquiri is very spirit-forward, you’ll want to choose a rum that you like the taste of and that you enjoy drinking neat. 
  • Lime Juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice for this recipe. Avoid bottled lime juice since it will give an artificial taste. 
  • Simple Syrup: You can make your own simple syrup using a 1:1 combination of granulated sugar and water. Or, you can use a store bought, pre-made simple syrup.

How To Make A Dark Rum Daiquiri

Step 1: Add the dark rum, lime juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Expert Tips

  • Try a flavored simple syrup. If you’re looking for variations on this cocktail recipe, try using a flavored simple syrup. An herb syrup such as this Rosemary Simple Syrup or this Basil Simple Syrup could add a unique flavor. Or, try replacing the simple syrup with maple syrup for a fall and winter variation. 
  • Chill the cocktail glasses. Since this daiquiri is not served over ice, chilling the cocktail glasses in advance will help keep the drink extra cold while you are sipping it. Chill the glasses in the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes before serving the drink. 
  • Adjust the amount of rum. This is a stronger tasting cocktail, and not everyone will enjoy that. If you prefer a sweeter drink, use 1 to 1 ½ ounces of rum instead of 2 ounces.
