Ingredients & Substitutions

The ingredients needed for the peach vodka shots.
  • Peaches: You can use any type of fresh peaches. Peaches that are ripe or even slightly mushy are perfect for this recipe since they will add the most flavor to the syrup.
  • Vodka: You don’t need flavored vodka for this recipe. Whatever type of regular vodka you have on hand will work. If you want to use another type of alcohol, you can replace it with white rum or tequila.
  • Sugar: Typically simple syrup is made with granulated sugar, but this peach syrup works just as well with brown sugar.
  • Water: You’ll need a bit of water to make the simple syrup. Use filtered water to avoid any unpleasant flavors.

How To Make Peach Vodka Shots

Step 1: Heat the peaches, sugar and water together in a saucepan over medium heat. Heat the mixture for about 5 to 10 minutes, until the peaches are soft and the sugar has dissolved.

Step 3: Add the peach syrup and vodka to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a shot glass.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t let the syrup boil. If the peach syrup begins boiling, reduce the stove temperature. Boiling the syrup will turn it into a very thick syrup that doesn’t dissolve well in the shots.
  • Adjust the peach syrup to vodka ratio. If you want sweeter shots, add ½ oz of syrup per shot. For stronger vodka shots, reduce the amount of peach syrup to ¼ ounce.
  • Mash the peaches. As the peaches heat up, they will become soft. Use a fork to squish them. This releases more peach juice and even more peach flavor.
  • Add in some fresh herbs. When you are making the peach syrup, add in some fresh herbs to the saucepan for a unique variation. Mint leaves, basil leaves, fresh rosemary or thyme would all work well.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use frozen peaches instead of fresh peaches?

Yes. You don’t need to thaw the peaches before making the syrup, but it will take a few extra minutes for them to cook properly.

Why is my syrup not pink?

The color of the syrup will depend on the ripeness of the peaches you use. If your peaches aren’t very ripe, the syrup will be a very light pink color. For a bright pink syrup, use overly ripe peaches.

Do I have to peel peaches before making the syrup?

No. It is not necessary to peel the peaches before making the peach syrup.

What do I do with leftover peach syrup?

Store leftover peach syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. You can use leftovers in other cocktails, such as this Peach Margarita.
