Ingredients & Substitutions

- Apple Cider: It's apple cider season! You can use a store bought apple cider or, if you have the time, homemade apple cider.
- Tequila: Use your favorite type of blanco tequila. You don't need to use top shelf tequila since it is being mixed into a cocktail. If you don't like tequila, use vodka as a substitute.
- Lime Juice: Use fresh lime juice if you have it, otherwise use a high quality bottled lime juice.
- Triple Sec: Most margaritas have a dash of triple sec for some orange flavor. You can use Cointreau or Grand Marnier as a substitute.
- Maple Syrup: A dash of maple syrup adds to the fall flavors and sweetens the drink.
- Cinnamon & Sugar: This margarita works well with a cinnamon sugar rim, but you can make a salted rim if you prefer.
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1: Mix the cinnamon and sugar together on a small plate. Run a wedge of lime around the edge of your cocktail glass. Gently roll the rim of the glass into the cinnamon sugar mixture, pressing gently to make it stick.

Step 2: Add the apple cider, tequila, lime juice, triple sec and maple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain and pour over ice into your prepared margarita glass.

Expert Tips
- Add more tequila. This margarita is not as strong as other margarita recipes. For a stronger drink, use 1 ½ to 2 oz of tequila.
- Adjust the sweetness. To customize the sweetness level of this margarita, add more maple syrup, or try adding in a dash of brown sugar cinnamon simple syrup. To reduce the sweetness, leave out the maple syrup altogether.
- Add some garnish. Some garnish ideas for this margarita include a cinnamon stick, star anise or apple slices on a cocktail pick.
Recipe FAQs
If you don't want to shake each drink individually, you can make a large batch of these margaritas just by mixing everything together in a large pitcher. Chill in the fridge for a couple hours and stir well before serving. Add ice to your margarita glasses, not to the pitcher, to prevent the drink from being watered down.
This recipe uses non-alcoholic apple cider. Hard cider or alcoholic apple cider is not a substitute in this recipe.
