Description
This easy starbucks doppio is an easy to make copycat espresso drink. A double shot of espresso, with a dollop of steamed milk and a scoop of bubbly milk foam.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 shots espresso
- 2 oz milk*
Instructions
- Heat the milk on a small saucepan over medium to high heat. Continue to heat for about 2-3 minutes until a lot of steam is coming off of the milk. Do not let the milk boil or scald.
- Remove the milk from the stove and pour it into a tall glass. Use a handheld frother to froth the milk until it is double in size.
- The milk will separate into two layers: steamed milk on the bottom and frothed milk on top. Use a large spoon to scoop a dollop of steamed milk (underneath the milk foam), and pour it onto the espresso.
- Then, take a spoonful of just the milk foam (top layer) and place it on top of the espresso.
- You can adjust how much steamed milk and milk foam you want to add. A true starbucks doppio macchiato has just a dollop each of steamed milk and milk foam. However, you can add more or less to adjust to your taste.
- Serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe makes extra milk. You will be left with a small amount of extra milk if you are only making one doppio. It is difficult to heat a smaller amount of milk on a saucepan without having it burn. Ideally, make 2 or 3 macchiatos at a time to use up the milk.
- Don’t burn the milk. When heating such a small quantity of milk, it is very easy to scald or burn the milk. Watch it the entire time you are heating it up and as soon as you see steam coming off of the milk, remove it from the stove. This should only take 2-3 minutes.
