Description

This Blueberry Basil Margarita is a refreshing summer margarita recipe that is made with fresh blueberries and basil leaves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Blueberry Basil Syrup:
    • 1/2 cup blueberries
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • Blueberry Basil Margarita:

Instructions

  1. Make the blueberry basil syrup. Heat the blueberries, sugar and water together in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally and use a fork to burst the blueberries. Once the sugar has dissolved after about 5 to 10 minutes, remove the syrup from the stove and let it cool.
  2. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out the blueberry chunks and pieces of basil leaves.
  3. Salt your margarita glass. Run a wedge of lime around the edge of your margarita glass, then roll it in margarita salt, pressing gently to make the salt stick. Set aside your glass for now.
  4. Make the blueberry basil margarita. Add the blueberry basil syrup, tequila, lime juice and triple sec to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well for 20 to 30 seconds and strain into your prepared margarita glass filled with fresh ice. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Storing leftover syrup: Store leftover basil blueberry syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
  • Lemonade variation: This drink is delicious with an added dash of raspberry lemonade.
  • Mocktail variation: Leave out the tequila and triple sec. Add in a dash of lemonade and top with 7 Up.
