This basil simple syrup is an easy homemade syrup that is perfect for mixing into lemonade, tea or craft cocktails.

- ½ fresh basil leaves, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
Instructions
- Add the basil leaves, sugar and water to a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Bring to a gentle simmer, but don’t let the syrup boil. Continue to heat for 5 to 7 minutes, until the sugar has fully dissolved.
- Remove the saucepan from the stove and strain out the basil leaves.
- Let the syrup cool to room temperature before storing or using in your cocktails.
Notes
- Storage: Store in the fridge for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 2 to 3 months.
- Don’t let the syrup boil. The syrup should have the consistency of water. Boiling the syrup results in a thick, gooey syrup.
