Ingredients

• Peach Schnapps: Peach Schnapps act as the alien brain “membrane” of the shot. It is clear, so it provides the background to see the rest of the colors combine. Plus, it is sweet so it gives the shot its fruity flavor.
• Baileys: Use original Baileys, or any other type of Irish cream liqueur. The Baileys is a light brown, creamy color that will sit on top of the Peach Schnapps, forming the “alien brain matter”.
• Blue Curaçao: When the blue curaçao is dropped into the shot, it will start to break up the Baileys (brain matter), on top of the shot. It acts as the “blue alien blood”.
• Grenadine: The grenadine breaks up the Baileys even more, forming the brain hemorrhage and adding in some “red alien blood”.

Equipment

• Shot glasses to serve the drink in.
• Eye droppers to drip in the blue curaçao and grenadine.

Instructions

Step 1: Add the Peach Schnapps to the shot glasses, filling them up ¾ of the way. 

Step 2: Gently pour the Baileys down the back of a spoon, on top of the Peach Schnapps. The Baileys should form a layer on top of the Peach Schnapps. 

Step 3: Drop in the blue curaçao. It should drip through the Baileys.

Step 4: Drop in the grenadine. Spread the drops around the top of the Baileys layer so it breaks up different parts of the brain layer.

Expert Tips

• Chill the ingredients in the fridge for at least an hour before preparing these shots. This will help the ingredients stay separated and form clear layers.
• Use a dropper to add in the grenadine and blue curacao. You can use a teaspoon as well, but a dropper gives you more control to spread out the drops across the top Baileys layer.
• When adding the Baileys layer, pour the Baileys slowly so it lands gently on top of the Peach Schnapps. Pouring it down the back of a spoon can help it land softly.
• The proportions in this recipe aren’t exact. Adjust the quantities as needed based on the size of your shot glasses.
• Use tall shot glasses, rather than shorter ones, for the best visual effect.

How to Serve

These Halloween shots are perfect for serving at a themed party to a bunch of friends. 

You can either prepare these shots in advance and chill them until you are ready to serve them, or you can have guests mix them themselves. 

To have guests mix them themselves, prepare the base of the shot for them in advance. Do this by creating the Peach Schnapps and Baileys layers in each shot glass. Store the shots in the fridge until ready to serve. 

For each shot, prepare two droppers: one filled with blue curaçao and one with grenadine. 

When ready to serve, serve the base shot, with the two filled droppers on a Halloween platter to guests and allow guests to add the blue curaçao and grenadine themselves.

Variations

• To add in some “green blood”, drop in some green melon liqueur, such as Midori.
• For flavored variations, replace the grenadine with flavored simple syrups, such as this strawberry syrup, this raspberry syrup, this blueberry syrup or this blackberry syrup.
• Try using a flavored Baileys such as Salted Caramel Baileys, Vanilla Baileys or Apple Pie Baileys.
